How we write and check questions

Only official sources

Every question is written from an official source: the state's driver handbook for DMV tests, state CDL manuals based on the FMCSA national model for CDL, the Motorcycle Operator Manual for motorcycle tests, NYC TLC rules for TLC, and the USCIS list for the citizenship test. We do not copy other question banks or the handbooks' own sample tests.

A quote for every answer

Each question stores the handbook section and a verbatim quote that contains the answer. You can see the source under each answer on our question pages.

Three checks before publishing

  1. Automatic quote check. A script confirms that every quote appears word for word in the handbook text.
  2. Automatic consistency check. Numbers in the answer must match across English, Russian and Spanish, and each question must have exactly four different options.
  3. Independent review. A second reviewer who did not write the question checks the answer against the quote, looks for a second correct option or misleading wording, and checks both translations. Questions that cannot be confirmed are removed, not guessed.

Dates and updates

Each state page shows which handbook was used and when it was checked. Laws change, so before your exam always confirm with your state's current handbook.

Translations

Questions keep the English original next to the translation, because the test is often given in English. If a translation and the official English text differ, the official text is correct.

Found a mistake?

Use "Report a mistake" under any question. Every report is reviewed.
