Driving on a foreign license

Deadline after moving: One year from the time you establish residency.

If your country is not on the list

No official WYDOT rule for foreign license holders was found. First-time applicants apply in person at a driver exam station: written exam and vision screening for a learner's permit, then a driving skills test in your own licensed, registered and insured vehicle.

You have one year from the time you establish residency to be issued a Wyoming driver license. www.dot.state.wy.us

Documents for non-citizens

Examples of accepted immigration documents:

  • Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
  • Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • Unexpired foreign passport with valid U.S. visa and valid I-94

License validity: Licenses for nonresident aliens are temporary, marked NR in the class field, and valid only for the period authorized on the immigration documents presented.

  2. Appear in person at your local driver exam station; immigration documents must be presented for every service.
  3. Pass the written exam and vision screening and get photographed for a learner's permit.
  4. Practice driving only with a licensed person over 18 in the front passenger seat; hold the permit at least 10 days.
  5. Take the driving skills test in your own legally licensed, registered and insured vehicle.
