- Shape
- Square
- Color
- White background with a black walking person inside a red circle and slash
What to do
As a pedestrian, do not cross here; walk to the nearest marked crosswalk or crossing signal. As a driver, you still must slow down and watch for people who ignore the sign, and never assume the road is clear.
Where you see it
At intersections or midblock spots where crosswalks are closed, often facing the pedestrians who would try to cross.
Test trap
Do not mix it up with the yellow pedestrian crossing warning sign. That one says people may be crossing ahead; this red slash sign says crossing here is forbidden.
Memory tip: Walking person crossed out = don't cross here.
