Warning sign · MUTCD W5-3
One Lane Bridge
The bridge ahead is only wide enough for one vehicle at a time. Traffic from both directions must share the single lane.
- Shape
- Diamond (square turned on its corner)
- Color
- Yellow background, black letters and border
What to do
Slow down and look ahead for oncoming vehicles before you enter the bridge. If another vehicle is already on the bridge or reaches it first, wait for it to clear; if both arrive together, be ready to yield.
Where you see it
Before a bridge or underpass that carries only one lane of traffic, usually on rural roads.
Test trap
Do not confuse it with Narrow Bridge, which warns that the bridge is narrower than the road but still has two lanes. Here you cannot pass an oncoming vehicle on the bridge at all.
Memory tip: One lane, two directions: look first, then cross.
