Warning sign · MUTCD W11-10
Truck Crossing Sign
Trucks frequently enter or cross the road ahead, for example from a quarry, factory or construction site. Large, slow vehicles may be turning across your lane.
- Shape
- Diamond
- Color
- Yellow background, black truck symbol and border
What to do
Reduce speed and watch for trucks entering or crossing the road. Keep a safe following distance and be ready to stop, because a loaded truck needs a long time to clear your lane. Never try to squeeze past a truck that is turning.
Where you see it
Near quarries, mills, loading docks, construction sites and other places where trucks enter or leave the highway.
Test trap
Do not confuse it with 'No Trucks' (a white regulatory sign with a red circle) or with a truck-lane or steep-grade warning. This sign warns only of trucks entering or crossing; it does not ban trucks and it does not mean a steep hill.
Memory tip: Truck on yellow: big wheels may roll out in front of you.
Practice question
A yellow diamond sign shows the side view of a truck. It warns that:
- Trucks may enter or cross the road ahead
- Trucks are prohibited on this road
- A steep downgrade is ahead for trucks
- Trucks must use the right lane only
Answer: A. The truck symbol on a yellow diamond warns of trucks entering or crossing, not of a ban or a grade.
