Regulatory sign · MUTCD R5-2
No Trucks
Trucks are not allowed on this road. The red circle with a slash always means that the thing shown is prohibited.
- Shape
- Square
- Color
- White background with a black truck inside a red circle and slash
What to do
If you drive a truck, find another route and do not enter the road. Passenger cars, including pickups used as cars, may normally continue, unless a plate says otherwise. Follow the detour signs.
Where you see it
At the start of residential streets, parkways, bridges and tunnels where heavy vehicles are not allowed, often before a turn-off to another route.
Test trap
Don't mix it up with 'Truck Route' or 'Trucks Use Right Lane' signs, which allow trucks. The red slash always means prohibited, never a warning about trucks ahead.
Memory tip: Truck crossed out in red = no trucks allowed.
Practice question
